‘Retro-Specks: Tail Lights’
This record is the cross-genre Frankenstein sibling of my album ‘Lights On For Safety’ (2018).
Some notes on this project:

Background Information:
The bulk of these songs were concieved during the making of the LOFS album. I chose to put these tracks aside because they didn’t fit into the sound and feel I was going for on that project. I wanted a broad yet cohesive expression of hip-hop for my debut LP so the editing process was fierce. Once I completed LOFS I went back through the castaways and realized I had a good start on a much different record from it’s predecessor. I chose to name it after LOFS’s working title: ‘Retro-Specks’. I added ‘Tail Lights’ as a subtitle to reference the sessions these songs came out of.
Staying true to it’s LOFS lineage, this record has been in various stages for several years.

Concept:
This project is a retrospective of my last 18 years as a performing underground musician. I revisit the sounds and styles from my past, including punk rock, pop-punk, acoustic songwriting, indie rock and hip-hop. My lyrical content often leans into reflecting on my past and what it means for my future as an artist.

Artwork:
The album cover was a collaboration between collage artist Max Underwood & painter WONKY

NOMOPOPO:
It was the last song written for the record. The single is technically a remix of a song I made 12 years ago with one of my first musical brothers @nickjackal. From the now out of print album ‘...and all the people I know are reflections in the sky.’ By Zach Maloof (me) and Nick Pfeil.
